As your host for our upcoming journey, I’m thrilled to accompany you through the heart of Italy—from the romantic canals of Venice to the art and architecture of Florence, and on to the breathtaking coastal beauty of Cinque Terre. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect on this segment of our adventure.
Venice: City of Canals and Timeless Beauty
We begin in Venice, a city that has captured imaginations for centuries. Upon arrival, our G Adventures guide will lead us through an orientation walk, introducing us to Venice’s narrow alleyways, vibrant markets, and iconic canals. This G Adventures trip, certified as a National Geographic Journey, blends guided exploration with free moments to wander on your own. Take a gondola ride through the Grand Canal, stroll across the famous Rialto Bridge, or visit the ornate Doge’s Palace.
One of the highlights of Venice is the chance to witness a glass-blowing demonstration on Murano Island or see the colorful houses of Burano. These islands offer a quieter side of Venice, where we can immerse ourselves in local artisan traditions, learning about craftsmanship that has been passed down for generations. Florence: Renaissance Marvels and Italian Aperitivo
Next, we head to Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance and a city where art and history intersect beautifully. Our time in Florence begins with a walk led by our expert Chief Experience Officer (CEO), who will introduce us to the city’s famous sights—the Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, and the Duomo. Florence is a city where you feel like you’ve stepped into a painting, with historic streets and masterpieces around every corner.
To celebrate our arrival, we’ll enjoy an aperitivo experience at a local bar. This Italian tradition, similar to happy hour, lets us sample some delicious local wines and appetizers. The rest of our time in Florence is open for you to explore at your own pace, with optional excursions to the Uffizi Gallery or Accademia, home to Michelangelo’s David. Whether you’re admiring art, sampling Tuscan cuisine, or simply enjoying the ambiance, Florence is a city that promises unforgettable moments.
Cinque Terre: Coastal Beauty and Seaside Villages
Our journey continues along Italy’s Ligurian Coast to the stunning Cinque Terre, a collection of five seaside villages nestled into the cliffs. Each village has its unique charm, from Monterosso’s sandy beaches to the pastel-colored houses of Manarola. Traveling here with G Adventures, we get to experience this UNESCO World Heritage Site while also understanding the environmental efforts in place to preserve its beauty.
In Cinque Terre, we’ll explore these towns by local train and take in the breathtaking coastal views. You’ll have the freedom to relax on the beach, hike between villages, or simply soak up the sun with a glass of local wine in hand. The slower pace here is the perfect way to experience the Italian “dolce far niente” (the sweetness of doing nothing) while bonding with our group in this enchanting setting.
And This is Just the Beginning…
From Cinque Terre, our Italian adventure continues through some of the country’s most iconic and picturesque regions. We’ll dive into the rich history of Pompeii, guided by an archaeologist, and savor the culinary delights of Naples. Our exploration of Italy’s flavors includes a private limoncello tasting at an organic lemon farm in Sorrento and a farm-to-table lunch at an agriturismo on the Amalfi Coast. And, of course, we’ll end our journey in Rome, with opportunities to explore the Colosseum, Vatican, and much more. This is just a flavor of the experiences waiting for us on this trip—a journey designed to offer a full spectrum of Italy’s landscapes, history, and culture.
